Aspiring teachers host UA-MAPEH 1-day basketball league

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- “Management is nothing more than motivating people.” – Le Iacocca

Perhaps this was the inspiration of John Calvin, Sherwin Marc, Jonas, Niah Kayleen, Giorgina Alih, Jamyca, Edil Jane, John Loiuse, and Pamela Mae as they staged and organized their “UA-MAPEH One Day Basketball League” on October 7, 2016 at the Archbishop Emilio Cinense Gymnasium, University of the Assumption, this city.

Drawing motivation from their professor May Flores, these future educators hope to inspire as well to instigate to their fellow students and to the youth in general about the importance of sports management.

More than a class requirement, the said “One Day League” has two major objectives- to hone their event managerial skills and to expose themselves to the different sports events that they will be handling in the near future.

The event also lets the students put into actual performance the lessons about sports management which have been one of the subjects of their studies, which is also the primary objective of the said activity.

During the said event, the students themselves were the ones who are practically in-charge of everything including the different committees. They were also responsible on the creation of budget, providing invitations to possible participants, inviting game officials, game rules and regulations, among others.

Participating schools include Don Honorio Ventura Technological University (DHVTSU), Meycauayan College (MC) and Colegio de Sebastian (CDS).

After the whole day affair, CDS emerged as the Champion while DHVTSU and MC captured first and second runners up respectively.

Organizers also gave special awards to individual talents including the members of the Mythical Five- Joel Pineda (DHVTSU), Simone Maiquez (DHVTSU), Harry Bautista (CDS), Rencel Catu (CDS), and Mike Jason delos Santos (MC). CDS’ Catu was also named Most Valuable Player. (PR)
