Duterte supporters, anti-Marcos protesters encounter in Manila, Cebu

SUPPORTERS and critics of President Rodrigo Duterte have encountered during anti-Marcos burial rallies in Metro Manila and Cebu City on Wednesday, November 30.

In Metro Manila, Duterte supporters assembled and held a program in Mendiola Peace Arch. They defended the President's decision of allowing the burial of the late President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB).

Anti-riot policemen were deployed in the area as anti-Marcos protesters are also now in Mendiola.

Before the grand anti-Marcos rally at the People Power Monument on Edsa Wednesday night, several demonstrations were already held in the metro.

Anti-Marcos protesters have staged rallies in several areas -- outside LNMB in Taguig City, at MRT terminal in Cubao and along España Boulevard, where they occupied a lane going to Mendiola, causing heavy traffic in the area. They slammed Duterte for allowing the burial of the late President at the heroes' cemetery.

In Cebu City, anti-Marcos protesters converged in Fuente Osmeña Circle around 7 a.m., Wednesday, and marched toward downtown Colon Street before heading to Plaza Independencia.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña also joined the protest and told rallyists that Marcos' corruption is still present up to this day.

The anti-Marcos demonstration in Plaza Independencia, however, was interrupted when a convoy of Duterte supporters arrived around 11:00 a.m.

Duterte supporters, clad in red shirts, also hold demonstration in the said park.

Last week, anti-Marcos protests were staged nationwide to condemn the burial of President Marcos at the LNMB.

Marcos was buried at the heroes' cemetery in Taguig City last November 18 despite growing opposition after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of his interment at the heroes' cemetery. (Sunnex)
