Protesters stage another nationwide anti-Marcos rally

PROTESTERS staged on Bonifacio Day, November 30, another simultaneous rally nationwide against the burial of the late President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) in Taguig City last November 18.

Hundreds of anti-Marcos protesters flocked the streets of Metro Manila and other areas in the country on Wednesday to air their opposition after the Supreme Court's ruling in favor of the late dictator's interment at the heroes' cemetery.

Militant groups also slammed President Rodrigo Duterte for allowing the said burial.

Demonstrations were staged on Wednesday outside LNMB in Taguig City, MRT terminal in Cubao, España Boulevard, among other areas in Metro Manila.

The rallies have caused heavy traffic in the area since protesters occupied a lane as they marched to People Power Monument on Edsa where they will convene.

Former Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, University of the Philippines professor and TV host Winnie Monsod, former Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman, and APO Hiking Society's Jimmy Paredes joined the anti-Marcos rally in Edsa.

Monsod said the Supreme Court's ruling allowing the burial of Marcos at LNMB is "contemptuous".

Several bands, including Moonstar88, entertained the protesters who converged at People Power Monument.

In the Visayas, anti-Marcos protesters converged in Fuente Osmeña Circle in Cebu City around 7 a.m., Wednesday, and marched toward downtown Colon Street before heading to Plaza Independencia.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, who joined the protest, said that Marcos' corruption is still present up to this day.

Protesters, including students of University of St. La Salle (USLS), also held noise barrage along Lacson Street, Bacolod City.

La Sallians assembled around 1 p.m. at the USLS Coliseum, and marched toward Capitol Park and Lagoon, where they held noise barrage, prayer service, and program at 3 p.m.

Various groups also stage anti-Marcos protest at the Rotonda in downtown Bacolod City.

About 200 militants also assembled at the Magsaysay Park, Divisoria in Cagayan de Oro City, to celebrate Andres Bonifacio's 153rd birth anniversary and at the same time denounce the Marcos' hero's burial.

"In his 153rd birthday, Andres Bonifacio deserves to be remembered as a true hero. As millennials, the present generation, we have the power to be modern-day Bonifacios and fight for what will benefit the country most, just like standing up against the burial of Ferdinand Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani. It encourages the idea that the Martial Law is alright when its really not," said Anakbayan representative Renz Ybañez.
