10 cops cited for catching most smoking violators

THE Anti-Smoking Task Force (ASTF) has recognized 10 members of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) who topped the apprehension and issuance of citation tickets to violators in a span of one year.

The 10 policemen were PO3 Glenn Cubillas, Insp. JonnelBonguyan of Mobile Patrol Group (MPG), PO3 Louie Cuison, PO1 Ahmad Amer of Talomo police station, PO1 Rey Albert Sulla, PO1 Roland Valeriano, PO2 Rey Manligoy of Sta. Ana police, PO1 Rinnart Fronteras, PO1 Marlon Coprada of San Pedro police, and PO1 Michelle Jumangit of Sasa police.

The cops were all recognized during the flag retreat on Saturday as part of the 13th anniversary of the Anti-Smoking Campaign of Davao City.

Jomilyn Villareiz, co-chair of ASTF, said the City Treasurer’s Office collected P194,940 from citation tickets issued against violators in January this year, P265,000 in February, and P241,025 in March.

The top performing police stations are MPG with 1,619 citation tickets issued, next is Talomo police with 810 violators, Sta. Ana with 676, San Pedro with 466, and Sasa with 349.

The citation tickets indicate the specific violation and the corresponding administrative penalty. Anyone caught may either voluntarily pay the penalty of P500 or contest the violation in court.

The City Ordinance No. 0367-12 series of 2012, known as The New Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance, prohibits smoking of any tobacco product in all accommodation and entertainment establishments, workplaces, enclosed public places, partially-enclosed public places, public buildings, public outdoor spaces and all public conveyances, government-owned vehicles and other means of public transport in Davao City.
