Capitol execs open center for abused women, minors
CAPITOL officials yesterday opened the P9.4-million facility that will house women and children in Cebu Province who are victims of abuse.
“It’s appropriate to call it a development center rather than a crisis center because we have different services like psycho-social, livelihood and others to help women and children,” said Gov. Hilario Davide III, chairman of the Provincial Women’s Commission (PWC), who graced the opening with co-chairperson Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale.
Magpale said that the Cebu Provincial Government Women and Children Development Center (PWCDC) will provide medical, psychological, legal and livelihood training for the victims.
They will be treated physically and psychologically until they recover, she said.
Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora said that the ongoing-construction of the livelihood center near the facility will complement the PWCDC.
The PWCDC complex, which was blessed by Bishop Dennis Villarojo, was built by private contractor Tuanson Construction beside the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) in Sitio Sudlon, Barangay Lahug.
Second phase
The complex has six bungalow-type buildings, an administration building, social hall and activity center, open chapel and three dormitories.
Jamora said that the construction of the second phase of the complex, which will include regional dormitories in support of the social welfare office and perimeter fence, will start next year.
Marivic Garces, Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PSWD) head, welcomed guests who included Provincial Board Member Miguel Antonio Magpale, Tuburan Mayor and League of Municipalities president Democrito Diamante, Consolacion Vice Mayor Aurelio Damole, Cebu City Assistant Prosecutor Lolita Lumanta, Capitol department heads, PNP officers and doctors who are members of the Provincial Women’s Commission.
During his speech, Davide promised to give two Iwata electric fans through his first lady Jobelle.
Diamante also promised to give another Iwata electric fan for the center.
