THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is upbeat about the official launching of the Philippine Institute of Sports (PIS), on Jan. 16 at the Multi-Purpose Arena at the PhilippineSports Complex in Pasig City.
With no less than President Rodrigo Duterte will lead the launching together with PSC chairman William “Butch” Ramirez, the commissioners and other sports leaders.
Aside from unveiling the PIS marker, Pres. Duterte will be also the event’s keynote speaker.
“The re-launch (of PIS) is in line with Duterte Administration’s thrust in promoting and elevating the condition of sports in the country from the grassroots level to its elite level,” Ramirez said in a press statement.
PIS National Director Marc Edward Velasco pinned high hopes that the inauguration will give the national athletes and coaches a chance to bettwe understand the institute.
“The athletes and coaches will have a better idea of what PSI is going to offer them during the inauguration, and what PSI will bring to the table. As for the other stakeholders, it will show how the PSI will be the main driving force of PSC in terms of grassroots and elite athletes. So they will think, this is not just a project. They will see that even the national government is supporting, because the president is there,” said Velasco.
