Deployment of more cops for stations 1 to 4 pushed

BACOLOD City Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said Tuesday he will recommend to Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to assign more personnel to Police Stations 1 to 4.

Familiaran, head of Task Group Bantay Negosyo, said they are gathering data to determine the number of personnel assigned to each of the 10 police stations in Bacolod.

“BCPO should assign more policemen to Police Stations 1 to 4 because these are located in the center of businesses and need more personnel to conduct visibility patrol operations,” he said.

Police Station 1 is situated on San Juan Street in front of Bacolod public plaza at the downtown area, Police Station 2, whose building is being constructed at corner Aguinaldo Street-B.S. Aquino Drive, covers commercial establishments along Lacson Street near the Provincial Capitol, Police Station 3 is located at the Lopue’s Mandalagan Annex Building in the north, and Police Station 4 is based in Barangay Villamonte, with the Bacolod Government Center and neighboring major commercial centers under its jurisdiction.

Familiaran said he will recommend reducing the number of personnel of Police Stations 5 to 10 so that the other policemen can be deployed to Police Stations 1 to 4.

Police Station 5 is located in Barangay Granada, Police Station 6, Barangay Taculing, Police Station 7, Barangay Mansilingan, Police Station 8, Barangay Tangub, Police Station 9, Barangay Sum-ag, and Police Station 10, Barangay Handumanan.

Familiaran said Police Station 1 has only 44 policemen and their duties are divided into two shifts.

BCPO has a total of 642 policemen.

Familiaran said the Task Group Bantay Negosyo will hold a meeting next month and will then follow-up the deployment of more policemen from Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (NIR) to BCPO.

On Friday, the City Council approved a resolution requesting the PRO-NIR in Negros Island Region to deploy additional personnel to Bacolod.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Ricardo Tan, stated that the number of police being deployed in Bacolod should not be lower than the required ratio of one policemen to 800 residents.

Familiaran also tapped the motorcycle group to help the city police especially during peak hours and night time.
