MUSLIM leaders in the Baguio City pledged to support peace efforts and police their own ranks in a bid to protect the city.
Baguio Mayor Mauricio Domogan led a forum with over 200 Muslim elders over the weekend with the Baguio City Police Office.
Muslim leader, Samsodin Monib, who heads the Islam Is A Complete Way of Life, said the forum themed “Muslim on Peace and Harmony” is a proof of the cooperation and support to the peace and order as an ordinary citizen and resident of this summer capital.
“We have long stayed here and we know each and every Muslim in the city and in Benguet. We do not want to disrupt the peace and order here because it is our source of livelihood. We the muslim community vouch our support against terrorism and illegal drugs,” said Monib.
Muslim elders pledged to cooperate in reporting fellow Muslims out to sow terror and involved in the illegal drugs in Baguio and in Benguet.
Sultan Mohammad Amin Bob Torres said the group will cooperate and support the government’s peace initiatives.
“I assure the people of Baguio, I am also from here, that there are no Abu Sayyaf members here and if ever there will be, we will do what is necessary by briniging them to the authorities.”
The forum paved the way for the Muslim community to publicly declare their support and define each one’s role in the maintenance of peace and order in the city.
