THE House of Representatives’ Committee on Local Government is speeding up the approval of House Bill (HB) 125 which seeks to grant additional P4,000 monthly honorarium to the Barangay Health Workers (BHW) across the country.
South Cotabato Representative Pedro Acharon Jr., who chairs the committee, led the series of hearings last week and agreed to consolidate other similar bills that seeks to grant additional benefits to BHWs.
HB 125, otherwise known as “An Act Authorizing the grand of compensation in the form of additional honorarium to Barangay Health Workers,” is authored by First District Representative Celso Lobregat.
At present, a BHW receives various incentives and benefits such as hazard pay as well as other non-monetary entitlements.
Once the bill will be enacted into law, Lobregat said each BHW will receive a modest compensation in the form of an additional P4,000 monthly on top of the current incentives they receive per month.
The incentives are being paid by the local government units.
Lobregat said HB 125 also authorizes the National Government to provide the necessary subsidy to help the fourth, fifth and sixth class municipalities pay the honorarium of the BHWs. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
