THE Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) was "highly commended" for its excellence in airport marketing, with between four million to 20 million annual passengers, in the recently concluded Routes Asia 2017.
Routes Asia is an annual route development forum and conference that brings together airlines, airports, destinations and other airline stakeholders from Asia and around the world. This year's edition of Routes Asia was held last March 19-21 at the Okinawa Convention Center in Okinawa, Japan.
Receiving the award for the Mactan Cebu International Airport were GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) officials led by Chief Commercial Advisor Ravi Saravu and Airline Marketing and Tourism Development head Aines Librodo, together with Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority General Manager Steve Dicdican and Directors Julius G. Neri Jr. and Atty. Annabel Pulvera-Page.
The Routes Marketing Awards was created in 1997 to recognize excellence in airport marketing as voted by various airlines. They provide the airline community with the chance to have their say as to which airport they think provides the best overall marketing services to them. They also motivate the airports to continuously improve and expand their services.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) also won the Best Destination award for the Philippines with its campaign "It's more fun in the Philippines."
Dr. Erwin F. Balane, head of Route Development of the DOT, and his team, received the award.
Balane expressed his satisfaction on seeing all the hard work of the DOT being internationally recognized. He said this should only motivate us to work even harder to harness all the untapped tourism potential of the Philippines.
The DOT, together with the Mactan International Airport Authority and GMCAC, is planning to bid for the right to host the 2019 Routes Asia forum in Cebu to further grow and develop tourism in the area. (PR)
