WATCH: Surigao's captivating stone beaches

THE Philippines does not only exhibit fine and white sand beaches. It also showcases rock and stone coastlines that are worth a visit.

Some of these stone beaches can be found on the three-kilometer coast in the three villages of Surigao City -- in Barangays Looc, Mabua and Ipil.

While the place is popularly known as Mabua-Ipil-Looc Pebble Beach, its shores are actually made of stones, not pebbles.

The stones are smooth, round and about the size of an adult's hand. In the middle of a sunny day, the stones are scalding hot. But in the afternoon, these stones are soothing to lie on while they're still warm.

At the north-end of the beach is a rock formation that you can easily climb on. At the top, you'll have sweeping view of the beach. It is a perfect spot to watch the glorious sunset.

Remember: Though it's very tempting, do not take a single stone for a souvenir. The City Tourism Office prohibits such act.

How to get there: You can ride a tricycle going to this pebble beach, which is 30 minutes away from the city center. There are many resorts and nipa cottages that await you in Mabua and Ipil. (SunStar Philippines)
