Angelicum defeats Merry Child to capture another volley crown

ANGELICUM Learning Center (ALC) captured the 2017 Northern Mindanao Grassroots Developmental Volleyball Tournament, held recently the at the Cagayan de Oro City Hall quadrangle.

The ALC lady Angels won the Class A division of the high school girls category after outlasting Merry Child School in three close sets, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23, in the finals.

The Lady Angels won the match despite Merry Child’s threats in three sets.

The Lady Angels managed to hold on and stopped the fierce attacks of Merry Child’s trio of Chamberlaine Cunada, Marynel Lumactod and Lui Sabal.

Angelicum of coach Bobong Rameri had Martina Chloe Dacer, Eureka Eslapor, Kim Yra Rocha and Angel Jalon to match Cunada, Lumactod and Sabal.

Eslapor became the tournament’s best spiker and the Most Valuable Player, while Dacer, Rocha and Jalon were also named to the mythical six.

Completing Angelicum’s roster were Josephine La Victoria, Alexandra Salvaloza, Maristela Cesar, Abigail Gaid and Princess Anne Manla. Rameri was named best coach of the tournament.

“We struggled much from Merry Child’s attacks and rally, but good thing experience made them to win the title,” said Rameri of their titular finish.

Their male counterpart was out of luck as they lost over the much tougher Valencia City.

Valencia bested Angelicum, 25-23, 25-19, 27-25, in the finals in the high school boys class A division.
