THE Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Cebu City is reminding the public to register for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections as the office will not extend the April 29 deadline.
Lawyer Edwin Cabungog, election officer of the city's south district, encourages people to register ahead of the deadline as they will not accept late registration.
"As early as last year, kada adlaw atong registration so there is no reason why we should extend our late registration,” he said.
For Cebu City south district, there are 345,178 registrants for the barangay elections, but only 3,756 were approved, according to the Comelec-Cebu City's January 16, 2017 report. There are 124,623 registrants for the SK polls, but only 2,047 applications were approved.
For north district, 296,518 registrants were approved for the barangay polls, while 99,184 applications were approved for the SK polls from January to April this year.
First-time voters need to bring either photocopy of birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or school ID to be able to apply.
Lawyer Marchel Sarno, election officer of north district, said they have already sent a letter to Robinson's Cybergate to support them in case the poll office decides to conduct a satellite registration in the said mall.
"Gapadala ta'g suwat didto sa Robinson's Cybergate nga didto nato i-held ang atoang last days of registration kini magsugod sa April 24 to 29 (We sent a letter to Robinson's Cybergate requesting the mall to allow the poll office to conduct the last days of registration from April 24 to 29)," he said.
