Film fest to showcase social welfare programs, services

THE regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Davao Region launched on Monday, May 22, the DSWD Film Festival, inviting all filmmakers to participate in their contest that will feature and further promote their programs and services.

Mercidita Jabagat, DSWD regional director, said on Monday during the weekly Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao Annex, that this is the first time that they will be conducting this activity to further inform the public on the services they offer and advocacies they give using the creativity of film enthusiasts.

“This is the first in DSWD to conduct this contest. It’s a short film-making contest and we encourage more participants like the film enthusiast, students who has hobby in film-making," Jabagat said.

The theme of the competition is centered on, “DSWD: May Malasakit.” She added that amateur and professionals filmmakers are welcome to participate to showcase their talents.

Apart from Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), they wanted to mainstream their other programs like Kalahi-CIDSS, Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), and Social Pension for Senior Citizens, Legal Adoption, Supplementary Feeding, Licensing and Accreditation of Social Welfare NGOs, Reception and Study Center for Children, Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth, Home for the Aged, Home for Girls and Women, among others.

For the grand winner, they will receive P40,000 and a plaque, the second runner up will get P25,000 and the third runner up will take home P15,000 while other participants will receive each P5,000 as consolation prizes.
