PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina is mulling the creation of a team to find three former Highway Patrol Group (HPG) 7 members tagged in the death of lawyer Noel Archival.
Espina said he already gave out the order to locate Senior Supt. Romualdo Iglesia, former HPG 7 director; Insp. Joselito Lerion, former HPG 7 Special Operations Team chief; and PO1 Alex Bacani.
"There is a tracking team assigned. The manhunt is continuous, that is a standing order. But you know, in reality, there should be a special team to track them down," said Espina, who visited the Police Regional Office 7 yesterday.
The PNP's personnel and records management earlier issued a special order dropping Iglesia, Lerion, and Bacani from the rolls for being absent without official leave (Awol).
A police officer dropped from the rolls is "separated" from the service for absenteeism or going on Awol for more than 30 days.
The three officers were transferred to the Personnel Holding Administrative Unit (PHAU) in Camp Crame in Manila last April 16.
Lerion, Iglesia, and Bacani are facing multiple murder cases for the ambush of Archival, his aide Candido Miñoza, and driver Alejandro Jayme in Barangay Coro, Dalaguete, southern Cebu on Feb. 18, 2014.
They were also charged with frustrated murder for injuries sustained by Paolo Cortes in the same incident.
Argao Regional Trial Court Maximo Perez issued the arrest warrant against the three last Dec. 11.
The National Bureau of Investigation 7 served the warrant but the three were no longer at the PHAU.
