Suspect: Bohol mayor killed by husband

THE first cousin of Bohol Board Member Niño Rey Boniel confessed Thursday evening, June 8, that Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Boniel was shot and killed by her husband.

Niño Rey told Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas Director Noli Taliño earlier that the mayor was killed by one of his men.

But Etad Boniel, Niño Rey's first cousin, said the board member wrapped Gisela's body with a fish net and put two stones weighing 30 kilos before she was thrown into the sea.

Etad, one of the suspects in the crime, said he just drove the banca after he was called by the board member to go to the dive camp where the mayor and her friend were staying.

Etad joined the police led by Taliño during the search and retrieval operation conducted Thursday night. Gisela's body was dumped into the sea, off Caubian Island in Lapu-Lapu City.

The body has not yet been found.

Taliño has asked divers to voluntarily join them in their search operation, which will resume Friday.

All volunteers can meet the officials of the PRO at Lapu-Lapu Police Station 2 or Mactan Police Station at 6 a.m., said Taliño.

He said they started their search operation around 6 p.m. Thursday night, but had to end it around 8:25 p.m. because it was already dark.

Two divers from Olango Island were tapped by Lapu-Lapu City Police Officer Director Rommel Cabagnot to search for the mayor's body. (With reports from FMG/SunStar Philippines)
