CERES Negros Football Club (FC) tasted their first loss in the ongoing Philippines Football League on a 1-2 reversal from Japan Philippines Voltes (JPV) Marikina FC over the weekend at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Both teams had a tough scoreless first half.
The Busmen got three consecutive corners in the early minutes of the match but Jason de Jong slipped in the mouth of the goal just before he could take Simone Rota’s flicked shot.
JPV had an opportunity to score their first in the 34th as Uesato set up Takashi Odawara for a clean shot but went off target. Bienvenido Marañon’s free kick also went out to the goal line.
In the second half, Takumi Uesato and Jay Baguioro connected one goal each to lift JPV to a 2-nil lead before Marañon scored Ceres FC’s lone goal.
Ceres coach Risto Vidakovic though criticized the inconsistencies of calls during the match credited to JPV for the win.
“I don’t want to look for an excuse. We played with the players we have so I think they deserve the win. In the second half they played better and they won it,” the Ceres mentor said.
The Negros-based team flew to Singapore on Sunday, June 18, to play Hougang United tomorrow night at the latter’s home pitch for the 2017 RHB Singapore Cup. (HGD)
