Slay and surf: What to wear for the tropical waves

LESS is always more during the summer. Easy, breezy, no-fuss styles are the go-to for many during the hottest season of the year. If you’re heading to a tropical destination like Siargao anytime soon, check out these key pieces that’ll make sure you’ll look photo-ready in and out of the water.

Bodysuit

Like a classic plain t-shirt, a sleek bodysuit is the perfect blank canvas for your summer ensemble. This versatile piece can be dressed up or down and be paired with virtually anything—denim cut-offs, maxis, palazzo pants. It’s light and easy to pack on trips, too.

Off-shoulder

Flaunt those shoulders and tease a little in an off-shoulder top or dress. Just don’t wear it when you have trekking or any activity in your itinerary for the day that’ll require a lot of movement as this style can be challenging to wear in that kind of situation.

Halter top

If you want to show a little clavicle action, a halter top does the trick.

Palazzo pants

The last thing you want in this blistering heat is fabric clinging on your legs, so ditch the skinnies with palazzo pants. These breezy wide-leg trousers are both comfortable and stylish.

Co-ordinates

These matching sets make dressing up a no-brainer. Florals scream summer but if you want something more classic, black and white pinstripes are always chic.

Sunglasses

Aside from shielding your eyes from the harsh sun, a pair of shades also adds that cool factor. You can opt for traditional frames like aviators or if you prefer something more quirky, go for heart-shaped ones!

Kimono

Printed kimonos make the perfect cover-up over your swimwear when you’re not out in the water. One with dainty fringe detailing adds just the right amount of festive.

One-piece swimsuit

If you want to keep the skin exposure on a minimal while you’re in the water, a timeless one-piece is perfect. You can never go wrong with a red one—it just screams Baywatch. Now go on, run towards the sun in slow mo and serve lifeguard realness.
