1,443 kids join city’s free summer sports clinic

A TOTAL of 1,443 children including 165 top players from seven districts participated in the Free Summer Sports Clinic hosted by Iloilo City Government through City Sports Division held at district plazas and SM City mall from April 9 to 15.

“We were able to gather more than a thousand kids in this activity. It only shows that they really love sports. I want to thank the parents for allowing them to participate. I hope they have learned a lot about sportsmanship, self-confidence, and teamwork,” Mayor Jose Espinosa III said during the closing ceremony.

“To the coaches and instructors who joined them for a week, thank you for helping them improve their skills. Let’s all continue to encourage this generation to be in sports,” Espinosa added.

Karetedo player Carl Justine Tizon from City Proper said he enjoyed the experience and he learned a lot not only from his instructor but also from his co-players.

“Thank you Mayor for initiating programs like this for us. I am happy because I met new friends. I was also able to enhance my skills in playing Karatedo. I will invite some of my friends to join next year,” Tizon said.

Sports activities offered were arnis, wushu, taekwondo, volleyball, basketball, football, lawn tennis, jiu-jitsu, chess, table tennis, and karatedo.

Espinosa, together with City Administrator Hernando Galvez and City Sports Division Officer in Charge Moises Salomon, led the awarding of medals to top players and certificates to participants. (PR)
