Grab drivers to undergo road safety training with PNP

GRAB drivers will take part in the country’s road safety and security measures as they are set to receive anti-crime seminars and trainings from the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG).

Grab Philippines signed a memorandum of agreement with PNP-HPG at the HPG headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City yesterday.

Under the terms of the agreement, “the PNP-HPG shall provide Grab drivers with trainings on road safety and courtesy, as well as anti-carnapping and anti-highway robbery, and relevant anti-criminality orientation seminars.”

Likewise, the police forces will provide technical support in areas of anti-criminality, such as highway robbery, among others, said Grab Philippines.

“This agreement is about Grab’s continuing commitment to provide safe and secure transportation to our passengers and partner drivers,” said Grab Philippines country head Brian Cu in a statement.

“We are grateful to the HPG-PNP for this partnership that will not only enhance our partner drivers’ training on road safety and courtesy, but it also provides us with the means to contribute substantially to the anti-criminality drive of the government,” he added.

The collaboration between Grab Philippines and PNP-HPG will run for 12 months. Cu said, however, Grab is looking forward to a long-term partnership with PNP-HPG to fight crime on the streets.

Grab said the program will be rolled out nationwide, including Cebu, where the car-hailing app operates. The trainings will also be done in batches, added Fiona Nicolas, Grab Philippines communications manager. There are about 500 GrabCar and 1,100 GrabTaxi drivers in Cebu. (JOG)
