Cybersextortion suspect nabbed

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- A 38-year-old man allegedly coercing his “virtual friend” into having sex with him was nabbed in a supposed meet-up inside a fast food chain of a mall on Thursday afternoon, April 19.

The suspect, identified as Norman Santos, from Santo Tomas, Batangas was reportedly about to victimize a 21-year-old college student from Orani, Bataan named Jane when he was arrested by operatives of City of San Fernando police.

Cyberextortion is a form of online crime which occurs when a person uses the internet to threaten and demand money or other goods or behavior like sex from another person.

Superintendent Roland Agohob, this city's chief of police, said investigation conducted revealed that Santos is a social media Facebook friend and chatmate of victim’s mother.

During the course of their conversation on Facebook messenger, Santos, who was pretending to be working and staying in Japan, allegedly duped

Jane's mother into sending him nude pictures in exchange for money.

On April 13, 2018, Jane was reportedly shocked upon seeing the nude pictures of her mother which were sent into her personal Facebook account by the suspect.

Santos allegedly coerced Jane into meeting and having sex with him in exchange for deleting her mother’s nude pictures.

With this, Jane agreed to meet Santos at Jollibee, Robinsons Starmills Mall here on Thursday morning. But she brought with her a companion for fear of being raped by the suspect.

Jane’s companion, whose name was withheld, reportedly watched them from a distance. When the victim's friend confirmed the suspect’s agenda, she immediately reported the matter to the mall security.

The responding security personnel then coordinated with the City of San Fernando Police Station personnel at their assistance desk.

Policemen immediately apprehended Santos and confiscated his mobile phone containing his text exchanges with Jane.

The suspect is now being detained temporarily at the City of San Fernando Police Station Detention Cell. He is now under inquest proceedings before the City Prosecutors Office for allegedly violating the cybercrime law.
