SIXTY percent of the 33,244 senior high school students from public schools in Davao Region enrolled in Technical Vocational (Techvoc) Livelihood Track as of last June 30, has a growing interest on agriculture and fishery industry.
Department of Education (DepEd)-Davao Chief Education Supervisor Jannete Veloso, in an interview, said the percentage has shown that the students have seen a great potential on the prevailing industries in the region such as fishery, agriculture, industrial, and home economics.
"This is a good sign because we are producing many graduates who will be really helpful to the progressing industries that we have in the region," Veloso said.
Following the Techvoc Livelihood Track, 26 percent took General Academic strand, seven percent took Humanities and Social Science Track, and five percent took Accountancy strand. All three are part of the Academic Track that covers 38 percent of the total 33,244 Senior High School students in the region.
Veloso said the Sports Track has the least number of enrollees in the region with only two percent. She said this is because the Davao Del Norte Sports Academy is the only public school in the region offering sports track.
Veloso said Deped-Davao urged both public and private schools in the region to open more tracks, specifically sports and maritime tracks, to provide students choices that will meet their interests.
"The Senior High program in the region has an eight over ten evaluation, focusing the improvement on the courses and track offerings of the schools," she said.
