THE Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) has recorded three violators of the Children's Safety on Motorcycles Act of 2015, which prohibits small children from riding motorcycles along national roads and highways.
CTTMO Chief Dionesio Abude said that two of the three violators were apprehended last July 12 and 13.
Abude said they have already oriented traffic enforcers on the provisions of the newly-implemented law. These enforcers are tasked to monitor and apprehend motorists who are carrying children who do not meet the standards of the law.
Under the law, children who cannot set their feet on the base of the motorcycle and cannot wrap their hands around the waist of the driver will be banned from riding the motorcycle. Also, the child is required to wear the standard protective helmet or gear.
Violators will be fined P3,000 for the first offense; P5,000 for the second offense; and P10,000 and suspension of driver's license for a month for the third offense, while beyond that will be subject to revocation of their license.
Abude reminded motorists not to allow children on board a motorcycle to ensure safety to these kids.
