Baguio crime dips to 46%

CRIME volume in Baguio City has significantly dropped to 46 percent owing to the intensified anti criminality drive of the Baguio City Police Office.

Senior Superintendent Ramil Saculles, city director of the BCPO said the highland city has recorded crime volume of 4,655 from July 2016 to June 2017 compared to the 8,545 crime volume from July 2015 to June 2016 with a decrease of 3,888 crimes.

Saculles added index crimes recorded were 1,237 which declined by 73 percent compared to the 4,657 index crimes the previous year while non index crimes dropped by 29 percent from 4,797 in July 2015 to June 2016 to 3,384 crimes from July 2016 to July 2017.

Theft, physical injuries and robbery are the three most prevalent crimes in the different parts of the city.

Saculles also reported theft dropped by 71 percent, physical injuries decreased by 59 percent and robbery dipped by 73 percent while carnapping dropped by nine incidents or 17 percent.

Rape, murder and homicide however increased by seven, five and 73 percent, respectively.

Index crime incidents from July 2015 to June 2017 saw a downward trend with the implementation of Project Double Barrel in July 2016 where index crimes have decreased.

Index crime clearance efficiency meanwhile increased from July 2016 to present with an average of 68 percent, compared to the same period of July 2015 to June 2016 of only 42 percent.

Index crime solution efficiency recorded an average of 51 percent from July 2016 to June 2017 with a 15 percent increase or an increase of the average of the previous years with only 37 percent. (Roderick Osis)
