TROPICAL Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) Number 2 was raised over the province of Batanes, as Severe Tropical Storm "Gorio" has intensified into a typhoon, the weather state bureau said on Friday afternoon, July 28.
In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the typhoon is located at 300 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 145 kph.
Pagasa said the typhoon will move northwest at 15 kph.
The weather state bureau said the typhoon and the tropical depression located at 600 kilometers west of Calayan, Cagayan, will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat), which will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over the western section of Luzon, including Metro Manila, and light to moderate rains over the rest of Luzon.
Pagasa said the typhoon is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday, July 30. (SunStar Philippines)
