Parojinog siblings charged

OZAMIZ City Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog-Echavez and her brother, Reynaldo Parojinog Jr., were formally charged with illegal possession of firearms and illegal drugs on Tuesday, August 1.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) also released the mug shots of the two, a day after they were transferred to Camp Crame in Quezon City from Ozamiz City where they were arrested along with six others.

The Parojinogs are the children of Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr., who was killed along with 14 others during the bloody pre-dawn raid in their compound last Sunday, July 30.

The Parojinog siblings are facing charges for violation of Section 11 of the Republic Act (RA) 9516 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (possession of dangerous drugs) and Section 21 of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (acquisition or purchase and sale of firearms and ammunition).

They are also facing criminal charges for violation of Section 3-A of RA 9516 or "the unlawful manufacture, sales, acquisition, disposition, importation or possession of a part, ingredient, machinery, tool or instrument used or intended to be used for the manufacture, construction, assembly, delivery or detonation."

During the raid, police recovered suspected illegal drugs and firearms in the different areas of the compound.

The Parojinogs' chief legal counsel Ferdinand Topacio said another family member who was present in the compound during the raid died while undergoing treatment at a hospital's intensive care unit.

He identified the additional fatality as Daryl Parojinog, the vice mayor's cousin who was in his 20s. (SunStar Philippines)
