Village leader hits black propaganda

“It's political black propaganda.”

THIS was the reaction of Barangay Mansilingan councilman Rodolfo Pico Jr. on the leaflets that are now circulating in various areas of their village.

The leaflets read: “Wala ka obra? Gusto mo mag obra sa City Hall (NGC)? Suportahan mo lang ang Team Love Mansilingan. Now Hiring... Household leader! Kap. Boy Pico.”

Pico, who filed his certificates of candidacy for barangay captain last week, said Sunday, April 22, that the black propaganda of his opponents in Barangay Mansilingan was to deceive their constituents here.

“I am now a big threat to their political career,” he said.

He added he is ready to face his three opponents for barangay captain.

Pico also received information that his opponents have another plan to distribute black propaganda to destroy his image.

“My opponents are facing several issues here and they are trying to destroy me through black propaganda so they can get more votes,” Pico said.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said that it is now a political season and there will be more intrigues and trickery.

“I am appealing to our people to analyze the issues because there are some people who are undeserving and unelectable, but good to make propaganda. It's unfair and one of worst things that will happen in our political system is when our people are deceived and would make a decision not on the basis of the truth but on the basis of propaganda,” he said.

He added Bacoleños should not support those behind the black propaganda.

The mayor noted that there is a law that prohibits the local government officials from interfering with barangay elections and barangay affairs so they will follow the law and they will not join in any campaign or endorse candidates.

The Commission of Elections Bacolod could not be reached for comment Sunday, April 22.
