P1-M illegal drugs seized in Mandaue City

ALMOST P1 million worth of illegal drugs were confiscated by the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) during a series of checkpoints in Mandaue City over the weekend.

The checkpoints were conducted in coordination with the Commission on Elections for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections next month.

Senior Superintendent Roberto Alanas, director of MCPO, said there were five persons who were caught with several packs of “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) last April 20.

They were Edwin Samosa, 36, of Barangay Ibabao in Cordova; Michael Vasquez, 38, of Barangay Tinago in Cebu City; Ricky Jose Rico of Barangay Guizo in Mandaue; Carlito Lauron, 36, of Sitio Cayogong in Borbon town; and Victoriano Zapanta, 39, of B. Aranas Extension in Barangay San Nicholas, Cebu City.

A total of 211.2 grams of white crystalline substance believed to be shabu were confiscated from the suspects. Alanas said the prohibited drugs were worth P844,800.

Three motorcycles owned by the drug personalities were also impounded at the MCPO headquarters.

Also, MCPO personnel caught Marlon Acal, a resident of Barangay Bacayan in Cebu City, with a replica of Airsoft Rifle M4.

The gun replica was placed inside the suspect’s backpack, which was left unzip at that time.

All the suspects were detained at the MCPO holding cell. (FMG/SunStar Cebu)
