THE Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) escaped with a 21-20 win over the Mactan Island Chess and Scrabble Association (Micsa) in the 21-Board Goodwill Match at the Super Metro in Lapu-Lapu City last Sunday.
Cepca bounced back in the second round with12.5 points after a lowly 9.5 in the first round to finish a point ahead of Micsa, which had 11.5 in the first round and 8.5 in the second round.
Cepca’s Reynaldo Flores beat Justine Flint; Ruel Nuttal outlasted Tommy Tampus; Norman Olayvar won against Alkin Codilla; Jun Kidlat toppled Jovannie Corro; and Ruel Hortelano defeated Jerome Moncopa all via 2-0 scores.
On the other hand Martin Kwan, Ronald Arnado, and Maggie Dionson gave 1.5-0.5 wins for Cepca.
The members of Cepca who drew (1-1) their matches were Cepca president Engr. Jerry Maratas, Peterson Sia, Jonathan Canque, Mandy Baria, Richard Ouano, Mike Calimlim and John Velarde. (RSC)
