Tell it to SunStar: Five things the PNP chief must do

FIVE points the Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief must do (avoid the overused propaganda of going after scalawags as these are merely the by-products of corrupt police officials):

1) Create the Police Defenders Office (the PNP Chief must have realized the necessity of such office, pencil pusher officials will never understand the hazards of a police operative facing harassment suits).

2) Release the CDP/CIP directly to the ATM of our police operatives, from the national headquarters, not to the regional offices or other layered bureaucracy.

3) Allocate court duty allowance (specific and not just subject to contingency by the commanders) especially drug cases.

4) Issue an order that the national headquarters, regional offices and similar offices recipient of dismissal/suspension orders from the Office of the Ombudsman/Civil Service Commission/PLEB/Napolcom and other similar offices covering police officers to challenge/review such orders with the assistance of the Legal Service instead of immediately implementing it.

5) The PNP Chief must remember this: The PNP does not need superficial programs. What it needs is to look after the welfare of its men.

“A happy police officer makes a strong PNP; A Strong PNP makes the nation strong.”--Clarence Paul Oaminal

On our traffic woes

In the medical world, treating only the symptoms aside from treating the cause prolongs the medical agony. The same is true to current Cebu traffic problem. The real cause of traffic congestion is the mismatched and ever growing number of motor vehicles on the streets vs. slow road development.

Jjust assume now that the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the Light Rail Transit (LRT) are already in place. Can we then imagine easing the traffic situation?

These structures definitely add convenience to the riding public but clearly do not address the true traffic congestion culprit. Road widening immediately comes to our mind but this will also take sometime in court as some don’t promptly give up sentimental possessions.

Believe our planners need to go back now to the drawing boards. --Ed Claros of Talisay City
