Probe vs. suspected NPA member eyed

THE Central Command (Centcom) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines will investigate reports that a young woman from Cebu was allegedly a member of the New People’s Army (NPA) after her diary was left and found by troops during an encounter in Negros Occidental last April 16.

In a press release by the 303rd Brigade, the 26-year-old woman was allegedly an undergraduate student of Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in University of the Philippines Cebu before she joined the NPA.

UP Cebu Chancellor Atty. Liza Corro, however, said that the woman is not their student.

“I had this checked with our university registrar. We never had such a name enrolled with us,” she told SunStar Cebu.

The press release also said that the woman was allegedly a resident of Minglanilla, Cebu and became a full-time member of NPA in 2012 when she was deployed in San Carlos in Negros Occidental, and Canlaon and Vallehermoso in Negros Oriental.

Her diary allegedly revealed that she was molested and almost raped by her fellow members.

“We will investigate because of the mention of a name, place and school. That is the most appropriate thing to do. We want to also be sure about this,” said Centcom spokesperson Col. Medel Aguilar. (JOB)
