Accident kills 4, hurts 11 others

A MOTHER, her two kids and another woman were killed while 11 were injured after the multicab they were on hit a wing van in Barangay Kanyuko, Dumanjug town yesterday afternoon.

Joy Tumulak, Capitol’s focal person on traffic management, said that the fatalities were identified as Jenefer Lopez, 26, her kids Harvey, 3, Oliver, 9, and Mary Ann Quirante, 27.

“They were on their way home to Tubod Dugoan, Dumanjug after attending a birthday party in a beach resort in Barili. They were riding a multicab driven by Saulo Quirante, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol,” Tumulak said.

The multicab was carrying more than 15 passengers, some of whom were thrown off the road.

Julito Cuyos, who was the driver of the wing van, stopped his vehicle when he saw the unsteady vehicle on the other lane.

Aside from the driver, those who suffered from injuries were identified as Zoraida Quirante 54, Raymond Quirante 32, Mark Quirante 10, Jade Padillo 11, Jemar Lopez 10, Jessa Mae Lopez 1, James Lopez 9, Quirnn Avenry Alpuerto 3, Cristina Turnos, 3, and Sarah Mae Turnos, 10.

The victims were rushed to the Barili District Hospital and Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Tumulak said that he will inspect the area to assess if there are any changes that the Provincial Government can implement to prevent similar accidents.

The van was impounded at the Dumanjug Police Station.

Cuyos, for his part, may face complaints for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and physical injuries, police said.

The two drivers, though, will undergo liquor test. (JOB)
