The perfect pair

THERE’S nothing more satisfying than a great food and drink pairing. It’s a wonderful marriage of flavors that carefully complement and compliment at each mouthful. If one has great food with elevated and new flavors, then there must be a drink that could easily complete a gastronomic meal.

A new player in the Cebu restaurant scene, Brewer’s Kitchen, has the best of both worlds—heart-stopping good food and a wide array of important beers to pair. This gastropub does not disappoint when it comes to food. The presentation alone is enough to urge you to take a piece.

Brewer’s Kitchen has a variety of appetizers to choose from; most notable of all are the Salted Egg Hand Cut Potato Fries, Mozzarella Bombs and Pork Floss and Chicharon Bulaklak.

The Salted Egg Hand Cut Potato Fries are freshly cut large potatoes that are fried and cooked to perfection and then coated with salted egg.

Italian mozzarella cheese coated in seasoned crumbs and deep fried to golden brown and served with Pomodoro sauce—that’s the scrumptious Mozzarella Bombs.

The humble ginabot is elevated with Pork Floss and Chicharon Bulaklak, which should be paired with ice cold beer. It’s such a letdown if one eats this without a side of frothy beer.

If the appetizers are already mouthwatering, one’s stomach might grumble with the house specialties. The Beer Can Chicken is one whole chicken roasted on a can of Amber Ale and is bursting with flavors. With North Carolina barbecue sauce, corn and carrots and mashed potatoes on the side, this would for sure curb any kind of hunger and is best shared with friends and a bucket of beer.

Another house specialty is the Rack of Skewers, perfectly plated on a hanging rack and is a mix of Thai pork, lemongrass chicken, veal sausage and Hungarian sausage. The mixture of different kinds of meat awakens the palette with its smorgasbord of flavors.

All these delicious food wouldn’t be complete without the wide variety of imported beers available at Brewer’s Kitchen. It also has nine handcrafted fresh beers in draft as well as Italian Merlot wine by the draft. It sounds too good to be true, but there’s no kidding around when it comes to alcohol at Brewer’s Kitchen.

There’s never a shortage of food and drink pairings at Brewer’s Kitchen. And when shared with the right kind of people, spending a night out at this gastropub would leave you with great conversations and even greater memories.
