Comelec finalizing number of candidates in Bacolod

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod City is still finalizing the lists of candidates who filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia said Monday, April 23, that they cannot give the final list until the Comelec en banc approved it.

From April 14 to 20, a total of 2,363 candidates have filed their COCs in Bacolod.

Majarucon-Sia said the filing of COC was extended on April 21 and about 13 candidates submitted their COCs.

Of the number, five of them withdrew their COCs and filed again for another position.

“We are trying to collate and finalize the lists to be submitted to the Comelec national office,” she said.

She added that Negros Occidental Provincial Election Supervisor Jessie Suarez will go to Manila on April 25 to submit the lists.

Meanwhile, Majarucon-Sia said the unlawful acts of the candidates will only take effect on the day of campaign period which is on May 4.

“There is no premature campaign and they are not considered a candidate until the start of May 4 campaign period,” she said.

Barangay Mansilingan councilman Rodolfo Pico Jr., who had filed his COC for barangay captain last week, earlier criticized his opponents after several leaflets were posted in various areas of their village on the alleged hiring of a job at Bacolod Government Center.

Pico said it is political black propaganda of his opponents to deceive their constituents here. (MAP)
