THE Supreme Court (SC) has asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to comment on the motion filed by Vice President Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo seeking to reverse a ruling that denied her plea to change the shading threshold of the valid votes from 50 to 25 percent.
The SC, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), has given Comelec and Marcos 10 days within which to comment.
Robredo, in her motion for reconsideration, said she is losing votes as the PET is using the 50 percent threshold while the Comelec had used the 25 percent threshold in the last automated elections.
Marcos, through his spokesman Vic Rodriguez, said that Robredo's invocation of the 25-percent threshold rule is erroneous and that the rule is implemented only months after the May 2016 elections.
Rodriguez told Robredo to stop accusing the PET of systematically reducing her votes and casting aspersions meant to debase the SC's integrity.
The PET earlier junked Robredo's motion for being inaccurate. It said it is not aware of any Comelec resolution that mandates the use of the said standard. (SunStar Philippines)
