PLAYGROUNDS may soon be installed in Baguio City villages.
In a move by Baguio City Vice Mayor Edison Bilog, a new law establishing recreational facilities in the different barangays has been broached.
The law will see to it that the purchase of portable playground equipment, which will be installed in barangays without existing playgrounds.
Once approved, the project will have a P5-million.
Bilog said due to lack of funds and wide areas where parks and playgrounds may be placed, some barangays have not been able to set up the facility.
“Installation [of playground equipment] would be beneficial in the children’s creativity as well as developing their imagination, dexterity and physical, cognitive and emotional strength, thus feasible for barangays that do not have the wide space or area for the purpose,” Bilog said.
If the new law is passed, the City Environment and Parks Management Office will be in charge of determining the specifications and the number of portable playground equipment that may be purchased while the association of barangay councils and the Special Services Division of the City Mayors office will determine the barangays that would be provided with the portable equipment.
Priority will be given to the barangays that are far from the central business district.
