Remaining escapee surrenders to Zamboanga police

ALL of the 16 detainees who escaped from police custody 14 days ago have been accounted, an official said Tuesday, April 24.

This came after Sulayman Sali, the remaining escapee at large, has surrendered around 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Police Station 6 of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO).

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said Sali was accompanied by his uncle, Dr. Ussal Amana, and other relatives, when he traveled from Basilan aboard a commercial ferry to surrender to the local police authorities.

Galvez said that Sali hid in Candiis village, Mohammad Ajul, Basilan, after he and 15 other detainees escaped at dawn of April 10 from the lock-up cell of the Police Station 6.

They cut the detention cell lock with a hacksaw that was smuggled in by a relative of one of the detainees. They were among the 58 detainees at the lock-up cell.

The other escapees were immediately recaptured by the police with the assistance of the Task Force Zamboanga in pursuit operation while some of them have surrendered. (SunStar Philippines)
