The youth and visual arts

ART speaks in different languages depending on who the observer is. Art takes the spectator to a whole new dimension based on how he sees the piece. Art is for everyone as long as you have the eye for creativity and talent.

Now on its second season, SM Supermalls showed its support to up-and-coming young talents from various schools and universities in the metro through the Art for Everyone exhibit held from Aug. 23 to 27 at The Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu.

Among the participating schools, universities and institutions of fine arts are University of San Carlos-Technological Center, University of the Philippines, Fashion Institute Design of Arts, Cebu Institute of Technology-University and Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion-Mandaue.

Providing these budding artists the platform to showcase their craft, SM has given these students a new and exciting venue to express themselves. It also enabled these young artists to gain a foothold in the local art scene bringing with them fresh art pieces to the table. Not only that, this nationwide art fair gave due recognition to the valuable role of mentors, schools and institutions in unleashing the youth’s passion for visual arts—promoting art pieces for everyone to appreciate.

SM’s Art for Everyone brought together starting artists from all over the Philippines with its simultaneous exhibit in nine SM malls across the country that featured a wide range of art pieces created by art students of the participating schools. Throughout the five-day exhibit, the art festival also hosted fun activities and workshops for all art lovers.

With a renewed vision of Art for Everyone, this exhibit celebrated an extraordinary appreciation for visual arts that will hopefully become a part of our country’s culture as it paves the way for a brighter and colorful future for these young artists.
