500 farmers join AgriXchange Davao

AROUND 500 Dabawenyos are now using the Facebook group AgriXchange Davao to purchase and sell different agricultural products and also to support the local farmers of the city.

AgriXchange Davao is a buy and sell online marketplace that was created by the City's Agriculture's Office (CAO) last month to give farmers access to the market and increase their own profit. It will also help the buyers to know the origin of the food bought and the agricultural practices being applied.

As of Tuesday, April 24, the page has already reached a total of 527 members, which is already half of their target number of 1,000 members before the end of 2018.

The group page immediately gained 150 members after it was launched and later gained more members which made them garnered around 400 members as of last month.

As of now, many buyers and sellers are already crowding the page with their products particularly buyers and sellers of golden miracle fruit juice, potting mix, fresh and organic lettuce, tablea, dark chocolate spread, fresh sunflowers, and chili products to name a few.

Earlier, Leuterio said they were planning to meet with the Davao Restaurant Owners Association (DROA) to discuss the nuances they prefer with regard to the products. Hospital groups and other institutions also wanted to purchase local agricultural products which can help in gaining more members.

Leuterio also said that the Facebook group is open to eveyone especially the farmers and establishment owners who are in need of fresh agricultural products. (Jamille Galido Monforte, FSUU Intern)
