Dole-Western Visayas conducts walk for a cause vs child labor

THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Western Visayas will conduct a walk for a cause mainly to campaign against child labor during the Labor Day Celebration on May 1.

The activity will be held at the Jaro Cathedral at 6 a.m. However, some of the participants may set foot in Mary Mart Mall in City Proper.

Some agencies were expected to join the activity namely the Regional Inter-Agency Council against Trafficking in Person, Child Labor and Illegal Recruitment (RIACAT-CLIRT), partner government agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Private Establishments and other stakeholders.

Part of the event covers also the signing of memorandum of agreement between NGAs and NGOs. It contains a vow of both parties focuses in precluding and eliminating the cases of child labor in the region.

Dole regional director Atty. Johnson G. Cañete said that provinces of Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental will also join the event.

Registration fees is P100 while the participants from Negros Occidental will pay P50.

Proceeds will be poured to finance the “Project Angel Tree” on June 12 during the World Day against Child Labor. The program aims to give school supplies and other social services to child labor victims in the region.
