Asian MTB returns to Danao City

AFTER 21 years, the Asian Mountainbike Championships will return to Danao City for its 24th edition on May 4 to 6.

More than 200 elites will hunt for the coveted titles in the men’s and women’s cross country race and downhill competition at the Brgy. Manlayag Patag in Danao City.

PhilCycling vice-president Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez Jr. said on press conference yesterday that the participating elite riders will come from 18 various countries. The Philippines will field 20 elites.

“We bid last year during the Asian Cycling Congress in Kuala Lumpur. We won unanimously. I did not even tell them what to see in Cebu, they’ve already known Cebu,” he said.

Fifth district Congressman Ramon “Red” Durano VI said that Danao City is not new in hosting international event and the city is always ready to host, especially sporting events like MTB.

“Danao City is blessed with the terrain to host event like this; all the requirements that a world class MTB events is there. It’s just a matter of complying with the requirement,” said Durano. (RSC)
