23 Bacolod inmates finish junior high

TWENTY-THREE persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) completed their secondary education through the Alternative Learning System (ALS) at the Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ) in Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City, on April 24.

Chief Inspector Norberto Miciano, MBDJ-male dormitory warden, said 22 male inmates and one female inmate finished their junior high school during the moving up exercise inside the jail Tuesday.

Miciano said it is part of the rehabilitation program of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

More than 100 inmates at MBDJ have enrolled in ALS.

Thirty-six of them are under the Literacy program of the Department of Education (DepEd).

Miciano said they help them in their basic education and encourage them that learning is a continuing process even if they are behind bars. (GYM)
