Marvil: Peace and order summit slated

VICE Mayor Edison Bilog who temporarily heads the Committee on Public Protection and Safety, Peace and Order which was formerly chaired by the late Councilor Roberto Ortega has scheduled a summit of the same nature on September 15 at the BENECO Multi-Purpose Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bilog stated that although the police have reported a down trend in the city’s crime rate, there is still a need in making sure that it will go further down to its lowest possible level. The vice mayor added that the summit will not only focus on the recent incidents of taxi hold-ups but at the same time intensify the campaign against illegal drugs and other crimes.

He further explained the importance of holding a summit since the City of Baguio, being one of the top tourist destinations in the country needs to improve and further develop its present Public Protection and Safety, Peace and Order situation not only for its constituents who are residing in the City but also for tourists and to sustain the vision of the City as safe, crime and drug free.

Various personalities were invited in the said summit to be resource speakers and to shed light on queries regarding the current peace and order situation in the city. The Vice Mayor is hoping that thru this summit, the City Council could address all concerns on peace and order and enact legislative measures that will strengthen solutions to existing problems.

Bilog is also confident that immediate remedies could also be made during the summit even prior to the enactment of legislative measures by the City Council.
