Davao City vice mayor upbeat on new youth sector rep

DAVAO City Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag welcomes the development that after the May 14 elections there will be a youth sector representative at the City Council.

Al-ag, in an interview last Tuesday, said the post of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) representative has been vacant for four years and with the upcoming elections, the SK Federation president will sit as the Council's newest member.

"This is very significant because in the Philippines, even Davao City, majority of our population is youth. Thirty years old below comprises the half of our population and the local government code states that there should be a representation of the youth in the City Council," he said.

He said that the SK Federation president will add to the list of the new councilors.

Al-ag said the new Indigenous Peoples (IP) representative will take oath this month and will officially attend the session in May. Third District Councilor Carmelo Clarion, who replaced him, has started his duty and has been attending sessions already.
