Davraa medalists get cash bonuses

PALARONG Pambansa 2018 Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) medalists received cash incentives from the Department of Education (Deped) in Davao Region.

Davraa collected a total of 12 gold medals, 27 silvers and 28 bronzes to finish ninth overall in the Palarong Pambansa 2018 held in Ilocos Sur.

Deped 11 spokesperson Jenielito “Dodong” Atillo, in a phone interview Tuesday, April 24, said incentives received by medalists of individual events are P5,000 (gold), P3,000 (silver) and P2,000 (bronze).

In team events, incentives were divided among members. In small team event, which is comprised of two to five athletes, the gold has a corresponding incentive of P7,000 while the silver with P5,000 and P3,000 for bronze.

In bigger team event, composed of six members or more, incentives of P15,000 (gold), P10,000 (silver) and P5,000 (bronze).

Meanwhile, Atillo said coaches and chaperons received half of the amount that their athletes had received which will be divided among themselves.

Chess player Aliyah Rae A. Lumangtad, received the highest cash bonus for receiving one individual gold, one team gold, one team silver and one individual bronze.

“We in DepEd, we are really aware of their efforts. We know their first priority is to bring pride, honor, and dignity to the region as Davao Eagle athletes. Secondary nalang yung reward, the money. First thing talaga is to really perform to the best of their abilities and to have medals for the region,” Atillo said.

The incentives were claimed during the Palarong Pambansa 2018.

Atillo reiterated his congratulations to the Davraa athletes, coaches and chaperones for their efforts.

“We, as DepEd, we give double salute to them. We are proud of them - the athletes, coaches, and chaperones. We are very proud for the efforts that they have exerted for the Palarong Pambansa 2018,” he said. (Brisbane Q. Titular, Father Saturnino Urios University intern)
