Karateka wins 2 golds

TAGBILARAN City, Bohol -- Darlyn Rose Maramara defended her titles in the karatedo competition Tuesday evening, April 24, claiming two golds for Davao Region in the ongoing National Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) here. Maramara, 18, a member of the Association for the Advancement of Karate (AAK) Davao and University of Mindanao, dominated the junior girls kata and junior girls -42kg kumite events which she first won on 2017 in Zambales. "Overwhelmed kaayo ko sir kay na proud sa akoa ang akoang mga teammates and family," Maramara, who graduated from Senior High School, said. "Mas naglisud ko sa kata sir kay wala ko kabalo kinsa akoang mga nakalaban (Competing in kata was more difficult because I did not know who I was up against)," she added. But she leaned on her vast international experience kept a determined mindset all throughout the competition. "Discipline and constant training," Maramara bared on the key factors of her feats. She added that she will try to balance her sport with her studies in college. Her teammate Christian Clark Robles also captured a gold medal in junior boys -56 kilogram kumite. The men's kata team copped a silver medal. The team was also composed of Jammel Tauhan and Mark Gil Yriarte, who also annexed another silver in men's individual kata event. Dexter Blase, meanwhile, settled for two bronzes from junior boys kata and -52 kg kumite events. Sisters Ethel and Edel Flores with Ma. Alexandra Barriga also secured a bronze in women's kata event. Meanwhile, Jomarie Berja, who produced three golds on Tuesday, pocketed another gold in junior boys 200m breaststroke. Berja along with Blu Cabilete, Selwyn Rex Cirunay and George Karlo Paglinawan salvaged the junior boys 4x50 relay silver. Kierl Suazo, for his part, took home a bronze in men's 100m freestyle as the medal-rich swimming competition came to a close yesterday at the Victoriano B. Tirol Sports Complex. Meanwhile, bemedaled runner Diana Mae Memoracion bagged two bronzes in women's 400m hurdles and 5,000-meter run. The former Milo 21k champion almost collapsed due to over fatigue.
