ROMERO Duno gets his first assignment under the Golden Boy Promotions banner on Sept. 23 against veteran Juan Pablo Sanchez at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
The 21-year-old Duno impressed Oscar Dela Hoya and signed him after knocking out his fighter Christian Gonzalez in two rounds last March.
“I am 100 percent ready. I will not take Sanchez lightly. He is a former champion and I saw his fights and he is a good boxer,” said Duno in a statement.
Duno, who is being handled by Gen. Santos City-based Sanman Promotions, is currently training under former world champion Rodel Mayol at the Wildcard Gym in Hollywood.
Duno fought in Gen. Santos City last June, knocking out Jason Tinampay, in what was his last bout in the country before his US campaign.
The 29-year-old Sanchez is a former World Boxing Council (WBC) Mundo Hispano lightweight and WBC International super featherweight champion. He is coming off a unanimous decision defeat over a year ago against Antonio Moran.
Duno is 14-1 with 13 knockouts, while Sanchez is 30-13 with 14 knockouts. (EKA)
