NEGROS Occidental has the second most number of candidates for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) or youth council candidates in Western Visayas.
Records at the regional office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed that Iloilo topped the list with 32,567 candidates for the barangay posts and 16,383 for SK posts.
In Negros Occidental, 14,672 filed their certificates for candidacy (COCs) for barangay positions and 8,876 for SK positions.
Antique has 10,177 bets for barangay positions while 4,756 for SK positions.
Capiz has 8,127 candidates for barangay and SK positions while 5,861 bets for barangay positions filed their COCs in Aklan with 4,048 bets for SK positions.
Guimaras has 1,818 bets for barangay positions and 1,152 are running for SK positions.
In Western Visayas, a total of 114,385 candidates are running for the May 14 elections.
Of the number, 73,222 of them are seeking positions in the village - 8,760 for barangay captains and 64,462 for kagawads.
In the SK election, there are 41,163 candidates, 8,420 for chairman and 32,743 for councilor.
The campaign period is from May 4 to May 12.
Campaigning is prohibited on May 13, the day before the election.
