EMPLOYEES of Flatworld Solutions-Philippines Inc. (FWS-PH), one of the leading business processing outsourcing (BPO) companies in Davao City, took off their time and celebrated with the city during their highly anticipated Kadayawan sa Flatworld 2017 on August 26 at Ritz Hotel Garden Oases.
Each employee participated and showed off their talents in various events prepared by the company -- Tribal Dance Contest to Folk Dance Contest, Bisaya na Balak Competition, and Larong Pinoy -- where everyone gave their best performance.
Colorful costumes and creative designs incorporated with vibrant sights and sounds manifested the effort that the four teams showed.
The teams’ names -- Kalayag, Unang Triyumbirado, Pangkat Illustrados, and Bantug Pangandangi -- were inspired by the Filipino heritage.
Kalayag is a Manobo word that translates to “shining,” which denotes providing “light, prosperity, hope and life” while Unang Triyumbirado (First Triumvirate in English), was a political group composed of very influential people.
Pangkat Illustrados is Spanish for "erudite," "learned," or "enlightened ones." Illustrados constituted the Filipino educated class during the Spanish colonial period in the late 19th century. Lastly, Bantug Pangandangi in Badjao means “great teamwork.”
The event is staged yearly by the company for their employees so that they will be able to enjoy the thrill and excitement of the Kadayawan Festival. They wanted to show that employees can also enjoy even within the company through the programs lined up for them.
Pangkat Ilustrado bested three other teams as they were hailed the champion for Folk Dance. Unang Triyumbiradowas declared the runner-up while consolation prizes were given to Kalayag and Bantug Pagandangi.
For Balak Champion, Geraldyn Pacudan from team Kalayag emerged as the winner for her excellent delivery. In OPM, Bantug Pangandangi was declared as the champion composed of Kimberly Abarilla, Julito Alinsugay, Rony Cabuenas and Lyndale Lincoln Vercudia while the 1st Runner-up was Pangkat Ilustrado and OPM Consolation prizes went to Unang Triyumbirado and Kalayag.
FWS-PH also awarded the Best Folk Dance Costume to Yusoph Guerrero who stood out among other participants.
Apart from promoting competitiveness and unleashing the talents of the employees, the company’s goal to develop camaraderie and rapport among team members were likewise realized as evidenced in their smiles, cheers, fun, and the bond they shared during the activity.
Ajit Sivarajan, general manager of FWS-PH, said in an interview that the purpose of the event was to recognize the effort of their employees for putting the company in the map among outstanding companies in the BPO industry as well as to celebrate and promote the city’s proud ethnicity, rich culture, and heritage.
"This is really to celebrate number one, the culture of Davao; second, it's a festival of harvest of the fruit of labor; and we just wanna thank God for the harvest that He has been giving us as an organization,” Sivarajan said.
From their humble beginnings, he said, from few employees they have grown to 500 employees and they wanted to let their employees enjoy the harvest that was a result of their efforts.
The company, he said, is looking for another site where they can accommodate their growing numbers and at the same time provide more services to their clients globally.
