Davao Food Complex being readied for bidding

THE National Development Company (NDC), who handles the proposed Davao Food Complex in Toril, is now readying the necessary documents that will allow interested foreign investors to bid for the project, said National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) official.

The Davao Food Complex is a 20-hectare property that was recently included among one of the pipeline public-private partnership projects (PPP) in Davao Region. With an estimated cost of P1.086 billion but with original cost of P496 million, the complex will have food processing centers, cold storage, warehousing facilities, trading post, technology and business incubation centers, tourism component, agri aquaculture, water filtration, and bottling facilities. The complex is seen to promote rural and value chain development targeting an increase of agricultural and rural productivity, rural tourism, and marine-based industries support. These will all be supported by the major landing facilities that will be installed in the area.

Just last Wednesday, April 25, Neda board had already approved of eight new infrastructure projects which included the Davao Food Complex.

Neda Davao Regional Director Maria Lourdes Lim said they are targeting completion of the project within two years. Aside from the vital interior components of the complex, she said improvement of the access roads should also be considered as well as making sure that the offsite facilities are already in place before operating.

The project was approved by the city council on first reading on February 21, 2018. It was approved by the Neda-ICC March 8 of this year.

Although it will be established by the NDC, it will be under a proposed joint venture. NDC owns three land properties including the 20-hectare lot in Barangay Daliao, Toril District where the Davao Food Complex will be located.
